An acronym about cars we hear constantly talking is ABS. Coming from the German braking system, this symbol means Anti-lock Braking System and is considered one of the key elements in the active safety of vehicles, responsible for reducing the probability of an accident.
The ABS Pump is an anti-lock braking system that prevents the wheels from locking and skidding when the brake is stepped, in order to provide stability to the vehicle. Allows the driver to have better steering control during braking.
The braking system of a car is responsible for reducing its speed by blocking the movement of the wheels. However, it is possible that the car continues to move even though the tires are stationary. This is a very serious situation because the driver loses control of the vehicle during his trajectory.
The ABS Pump comes into operation at this time, by stopping the movement of the tires, but allowing the driver to handling his vehicle to dogde from a possible car or obstacle that may arise in his course.
ABS Pump Elements
- Rotation sensors –provide information to the ABS module when one of the wheels begins to brake.
- Valves – there is a valve in the piping of each brake controlled by the ABS module, responsible for lowering the brake pressure.
- Pump – has the function of resetting the brake pressure after valve to decrease.
- ABS Control Unit – responsible to check the rotation sensors and control the valves.
Problems and common flaws in the ABS Pump
- Brake pedal response capability failure – over time it will become more difficult to press on the brake pedal.
- Appearance of ABS light – the cause of this event may be from problems with handbrake, loss of brake fluid or defective hydraulic valves.
